C. Pavese - Tra donne sole [1950]


Pavese published Among single women with two other short novels, The Devil hills and the beautiful summer , in a volume that marked the consecration critical sanctioned by the Strega Prize in 1950. Presenting the book, Pavese emphasized the common moral climate of those stories, the rolling of the same themes in the free play of fantasy. They are novels explore the city and society of "youth enthusiasm, passion and loss. " Clelia, the character who says "I", the protagonist of Among single women, is a woman no longer young, living proudly of their work, in rough and sullen solitude, and see and judge the company's restless middle class of the first World War, the intellectual circles a little 'snob, a little girls' desperate a bit' cynical, all on a background of impending doom. From this novel Michelangelo Antonioni drew the screenplay for the film "friends."
